The St. Joseph Altar is an event at our parish to gather decorative baked goods to honor Saint Joseph. A free will spaghetti luncheon is held with proceeds benefitting the poor. All are invited to take part in the traditional St. Joseph Altar at Christ the King on Friday, March 19, 2021. It is a Catholic custom to bake breads, cakes, pastries, and cookies and offer them along with fruits in honor of St. Joseph. These foods are arrayed before the statue of St. Joseph to inspire the faithful. Bakers often fashion their baked goods with Christian artistry, making them in the shapes of crosses, carpenter’s tools, lambs, lilies, flowers, and other creative Christian symbols.
After a special Mass, a simple ceremony in which any children present and who are dressed as Saints take part. A free-will offering spaghetti luncheon is held for the entire community; all donations to the luncheon assist the Christ the King St. Vincent de Paul Society’s care of the poor.
To mark the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, Pope Francis proclaimed a “Year of Saint Joseph” from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021.
Christ the King parish is celebrating the “Year of Saint Joseph” by praying a novena in honor of Saint Joseph, starting on March 10 and continuing until March 18.
Join fellow parishioners today at 6:30 p.m. in the church starting tonight and each night through March 18th, or pray at home using materials below.
