From 6 p.m.-7 p.m., we will host an Eucharistic Procession around the perimeter of our campus immediately after the 5 p.m. Saturday Mass tonight, June 5th. Afterwards, all are invited to enjoy a free ice cream social outside on the north side of the church (or in the Parish Center in case of inclement weather).
The Solemnity of Corpus Christi (The Body of Christ) that we honor today was established in the 13th century and the Church has devoutly fostered processions of the faithful on this day ever since. The Corpus Christi Procession proclaims to the world that the real Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ are present under the appearance of the bread in Holy Communion and in the tabernacle and in the monstrance. It puts our faith and words into action as we simply and publicly demonstrate our most sacred belief that Jesus remains with us until the end of the world in a preeminent way in the Eucharist.
Countless documented miracles throughout history have confirmed the Church in Her belief in this mystery of the Real Presence, in which Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained. St. John Chrysostom declares: “It is not man that causes the things offered to become the Body and Blood of Christ, but He who was crucified for us, Christ himself. The priest, in the role of Christ, pronounces these words, but their power and grace are God’s.”
The Priesthood of Jesus Christ and the Eucharist are inextricably linked. We cannot have the Blessed Sacrament without priests to confect It and priests are expressly ordained to celebrate the Eucharist for the people. Today we march with Our Lord around our grounds both to make our faith in the Real Presence visible and to pray for increased vocations to the priesthood, particularly here in the Archdiocese of Omaha and from our parish and our families.
